Lacrosse Game

Tonight we all went as a family to watch Connor's lacrosse game. Connor plays for Hickory High school (they are white) and they were playing Kellum High (black...of course:). This was a particularly exciting game........Connor scored his FIRST GOAL !!!!! (and scoring a goal in Lacrosse is a pretty hard thing to do:) Lacrosse is a really fun and fast paced game to watch. It is kind of like a mix of hockey, soccer, and football.......if you can picture that:) Connor also wants to let everyone know that he knocked a bunch of people to the ground!! Oh ya baby!! Connor is number 13 in all these pics. Let us know if you would like to come and watch a game sometime.....we will let you know when and where Connor is playing next.

Our Weekend

On Friday Connor, Kara, and Mom woke up very early (4:30am to be exact:) and headed up to Veritas for the Washington D.C. fieldtrip. The Lord cleared out the rain that had been in the area for the past week and gave them a beautiful day for D.C. on Friday. Kara was on one bus and Connor and mom were on another. Connor's group went to the Holocost museum, National Archives, and Mount Vernon, and Kara's group went to the Air and Space and National History Museums. They all said they had a great time, but were very tired when finally arriving home at 11:30pm. On Saturday Kaitlin worked all day. Because the sun finally came out Enchanted Forest Nursery and Stone was a hoppin place. It seemed everyone was out to get plants, stone, or mulch on that day (I will try to post some pictures soon of my new job). The rest of the fam stayed home an worked around the house both inside and out. We all enjoyed a very tasty and relaxing meal at Chilis that night together as a family. On Sunday right after church we went to the induction ceremony for the Phi Theta Kappa Tidewater Community College honor society. Kaitlin is now a member of the honor society at TCC. Afterwards we went to a restaurant called Pirates Cove to celebrate. We ordered fried calamari, hushpuppies, apple booty (like apple pie:), turtle cheesecake, and a brownie sundae. We all shared everything and it was so yummy (not to mention loaded with carbs, but lets not think about that right now:)!!

Christ the Lord is risen today!!

He is Risen!!
Luke 24:2-7 ~And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. And it happened that while they were perplexed about this, behold, two men suddenly stood near them in dazzling apparel; and as the women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them "Why do you seek the living One among the dead? He is not here, but He has risen. Remember how he spoke to you while He was still in Galilee, saying that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again."~
Isaiah 53:5
~But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed.~
Romans 4:24-25
~as those who believe in Him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead, He who was delivered up because of our transgressions, and was raised because of our justification.~
He is risen indeed!
I hope everyone has a very happy Easter celebrating our risen Lord!!

Beach Day

Connor and Kara's had a day off from school on Friday, so we decided to do something fun. The weather has been so nice here(in the 60's and 70's) that we thought it would be fun to head down to the beach. It was beautiful there!! The sun came out later in the day and it wasn't too windy. We went with our friends the Adams(Susan, Laura, and Rebecca) and the Coffeys(Linda and Kyle). We first ate lunch at a Christian place called Daily Bread. Most of us got a yummy smoothie or milkshake there. After lunch we rented three bicycle surreys and rode along the boardwalk. It was such a wonderful day and I can't wait to go to the beach more!!

Spring Break Fun!!

This week is my spring break, and I'm already enjoying it so much!! I was so happy to hear that two of my close friends both had their spring breaks the same time as mine. Laura goes to Christopher Newport and Natasha Old Dominion. Natasha and Laura came over after church on Sunday and we just ate lunch and hung out. Later that evening they came with me to watch while I played volleyball on our church league. After volleyball we went to Starbucks and then got some snacks to go with our movie later that night. We watched The Last Sin Eater which was very good. On Monday we slept in a little bit (it felt so good to do that!!:), then we headed out to play miniature golf. We played two rounds of putt-putt. After golf we went and grabbed some lunch at Three Amigos.......very yummy!! Lunch was followed by a little shopping at Target, Old Navy, and Dollar Tree. Before the girls left we got to take some funny pictures together which you will see below. It was so much fun to be with my friends for almost two entire days!! God has truly blessed me with godly, encouraging, and caring friends in my life.
Laura, me, and Natasha
This is what we did with our tip at the mexican restaurant.......I wonder if the waiter even noticed :)

I think Natasha and Laura look like models in this picture :)

Say what??.......these are our confused faces:)
........and our mad faces he he :)

Kaitlin's English Writing

Traveling through the Dark William Stafford
Traveling through the dark
I found a deer dead on the edge of the Wilson River road.
It is usually best to roll them into the canyon:
that road is narrow; to swerve might make more dead.
By glow of the tail-light I stumbled back of the car
and stood by the heap, a doe, a recent killing;
she had stiffened already, almost cold.
I dragged her off; she was large in the belly.
My fingers touching her side brought me the reason—
her side was warm; her fawn lay there waiting,
alive, still, never to be born.
Beside that mountain road I hesitated.
The car aimed ahead its lowered parking lights;
under the hood purred the steady engine.
I stood in the glare of the warm exhaust turning red;
around our group I could hear the wilderness listen.
I thought hard for us all—my only swerving—,
then pushed her over the edge into the river.
In English this semester, I have to write journal entries about the poems or short stories that we read. In the Journal, the professor does not want a complete summary of what is about, but instead something deeper that the peom may be arguing. He wants us to try to apply it to something that we all can relate to even today. I love my english class and my professor is great!! Here is what I wrote after reading the poem above.

After reading William Stafford's poem, Traveling through the Dark, I started questioning what the meaning might be for me from this particular poem. Although the poem is about and animal, I think it can relate to one of today's hot topics of abortion, the killing of unborn children.

The poem begins with a traveler noticing a dead deer on the side of the road that was just recently hit by a car. Without hesitation the speaker decides the best thing to do would be to push the deer into the river below in order to clear the narrow road. A shocking discovery is made by feeling the warmth of the doe's belly; she is pregnant. There is life within the dead doe, but yet it will never live. The line, "her fawn lay there waiting, " struck me as the fawn knew nothing yet of the world and was totally dependent on the mother. Without the life of the mother the fawn can be nothing.

The defenselessness of the unborn fawn resembles that of unborn babies. Without their mother, they will never be. In the conclusion of the poem, the speaker says, "I thought hard for us all." "Us, " I believe represents all manking and the fawn for whom the speaker was making the decision. Do abortionists, I wonder, ever feel as if the world is watching them as they end a baby's life, or if they ever think about the life the baby will never life? When the abortion is complete, it is like the part of the poem when the speaker finally decides to push the doe into the river. The baby's life is gone forever and the mother's life more than likely will be a continual struggle. This poem reminds me of how precious life is.
